Paramount+ has launched a new horror series that is so “creepy” it has left fans “spooked”. British horror-thriller The Burning Girls dropped on the streaming platform on Thursday (October 19), and has made an impression on viewers in the run-up to Halloween.

Adapted from British author C.J. Tudor’s 2021 novel, the six-part series takes place in a village haunted by a dark and turbulent history which includes the grisly killing of two young girls who were burned at the stake. It centres on Reverend Jack Brooks, a single parent haunted by a tragedy from her previous church who bears the onus of her husband’s death.

Along with her teenage daughter Flo, Jack moves to a small Sussex village in the hope of a fresh start, but they soon find the village is rife with conspiracies and terrible secrets. The series offers an eerie folk horror vibe – replete with witchy and pagan iconography – that led to The Telegraph describing it as Broadchurch meets The Wicker Man.

The series is available to stream with a subscription to Paramount+ for £6.99 a month. All episodes dropped at once, meaning fans can enjoy a binge of the series this Halloween, and can do so without paying a penny thanks to Paramount’s seven-day free trial.
