Every year wrapping up presents for Christmas can be a mammoth task - especially if you have a lot of people to buy for. Aside from the task of wrapping itself, the expense of buying the paper, gift bags, name tags and ribbon feels never-ending.

It can all add up come December, and the last thing you want to splash cash on after buying all your presents is wrapping paper. Thankfully, Primark has brought back its genius solution this year to wrapping on a budget.

The high street store's iconic red candy cane striped paper bags double up as wrapping paper once the items have been taken home - and festive fans can't wait to re-use the carriers again this year.

The handy money-saving trick is a sustainable and environmentally friendly way to wrap up presents, and Primark says its paper bags are 100% recyclable and made from natural and renewable resources. To make things even better - you won't be charged for the bag either, meaning your wrapping paper is essentially free.

Primark posted a tutorial for shoppers on how to make the most out of the bags in just a few easy steps. Taking to TikTok to share the hack, you first need to cut the top and bottom of the bag off along the dotted lines so you are left with the striped paper, you can then cut the bag to the size of the gift you are wrapping.

The video then demonstrates someone placing the gift in the middle of the paper before wrapping the gift nice and snug, in order to keep things neat. To top it off, you can add a gift tag, which is marked out on the paper bag too. People have been calling it a "lifesaver" and taking to TikTok to share their wrapping skills with the handy and free wrapping paper.

"I used this for presents to my friends rather than my kids and it does save you a small fortune if it's just for little presents!" one happy shopper wrote, while another added: "I used it for my friend's birthday gifts, what a lifesaver! I didn't have any wrapping paper!" and a third chimed: "I did this last year with the bags and omg the presents looked lovely under the tree wrapped in this."

A Primark spokesperson confirmed the return of the bags according to The Sun and said: "We're delighted to confirm that our iconic Primark paper bags are once again being transformed into wrapping paper this Christmas. The brown and red festive striped bags will start to arrive in our stores from next week, and feature handy cutting lines with easy to follow instructions for shoppers." Describing them as a "win-win" they added: "As well as being easily recycled after the big day, customers can save money on purchasing extra wrapping – a win-win."
