Sell your Mac now or lose out on hundreds of pounds, Apple fans warned

If you've been thinking about selling your old Mac computer for a while, this week could be your last chance to get a decent price for it. That's if rumours about a new range of Mac computers are true. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, who regularly publishes Apple rumours and leaks, has told his subscribers that a new 24-inch Mac could be announced as soon as next week.

He said he was 'told that Apple is planning a Mac-centered product launch around the end of this month' with a new desktop computer getting the powerful M3 processor chip.

That means Apple fans could well get the chance of buying a more powerful device, which is great news for anyone who's overdue an upgrade.

But it could spell bad news for anyone looking to sell their old Apple PC, as the trade-in and resell values of ageing devices tend to plummet with each new release.

For example, last year the potential trade-in value of a Mac Pro dropped from £1643 to £1473, while the value of an iMac also dropped following the launch of a new range of Apple desktop computers.

Apple has previously been criticised for the low values offered by its trade-in scheme, which Apple fans can use to gain store credit to use on newer gadgets.

A 128GB iPhone 14 in 'good' condition will net you just £400 in trade-in credit—despite Apple only releasing the smartphone last year and selling it new on their store for £699.

It's still not confirmed that Apple will launch its new Macs this month, so take the news with a pinch of salt. But just be warned that if they do, you could miss out on some serious cash.
