Ever since she was 11 years old, Britney Spears ' narrative has be ruled and told by those around her. She's lived her entire life under the brightest of celebrity spotlights, with every move played out in the public eye.

But now, the Princess of Pop is finally telling her side of the story - and it's not an easy read. In her highly-anticipated memoir, The Woman in Me, Britney reveals all about her personal life and leaves no stone unturned. She talks about her high-profile relationship with Justin Timberlake, her fallout with sister Jamie-Lynn and friendships with Christina Aguilera and Madonna.

She also shares heartbreaking details about being "shamed" and going through an abortion, as well detailing what it was like to live in her conservatorship.

Here, we go through some of the biggest and most shocking details of the book, which hit the shelves on Monday.

Justin Timberlake's cheating and dumping her by text

JT used the video for his hit song Cry Me a River to hit back at Britney, with the Princess of Pop saying he "shamed" her with the video.

However she also claims that her famous ex also cheated on her countless times. In the book she expresses that she was portrayed as a "harlot" in the wake of their split, while he was viewed as "America's golden boy". While Britney seemingly accepts she was unfaithful to him, she claims that "Justin neglected to mention the several times he'd cheated on me".

She also claims that despite evidence that he cheated several times, she never confronted him about it. Britney also writes that Justin dumped her with a brutal two-word text message. He ended their three-year love simply saying "It's over!!". Britney was filming the music video for Overprotected at the time and had to go straight back to work, despite being in fits of tears.

Britney feared her family would 'kill her' amid conservatorship

Britney says she feared her life during her 13-year conservatorship and began thinking her family would "try to kill her". Reflecting on her darkest moments during her conservatorship, which saw her father Jamie make all of her life decisions for her, Britney shared how "at various times I pushed back".

She said she'd try to fight against it when her "father took away access to [her] cell phone". Britney shared how she would try and smuggle "a private phone and try and break free" but her family "always caught" her. Britney saiid how she became "tired and scared" and feared for her life. "After being held down on a gurney, I knew they could restrain my body any time they wanted to. They could’ve tried to kill me, I thought. I started to wonder if they did want to kill me," she added.

Britney met up with a 'messed up' Christina Aguilera in Vegas

Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera's relationship has long been speculated about, with the two often pitted against each other as bitter rivals. But while it remains to be seen if the two will ever become bosom buddies, Britney recalled a meet-up she once organised with the Dirrty singer in Las Vegas.

Britney shared how she met up with the fellow pop star after ended up having "most of the same dancers as Christina" on one of her tours. But Britney claimed that when she saw Christina, she was "pretty messed up", so instead, Britney hung out with the dancers in the pool and jacuzzi at the Vegas hotel.

Taking drugs in 'underground club'

Britney uses the book to express just how heartbroken she was when Justin broke up with her, saying she even took drugs. She moved to New York but says she rarely went out, instead just staying in her swanky apartment. However on one of the rare occasions she did go out, Britney says she decided to try pot for the first time. Her cousin took her to a "sexy underground club" where she took a "couple of hits from a joint".

Justin Timberlake 'still doesn't understand'

Britney and Justin split more than 20 years ago, but she claims he still doesn't understand how much he hurt her. Cry Me a River went on to become a massive success, with everyone discussing the less-than-subtle video. In the book she writes: "The thought of my betraying him gave the album more angst, gave it a purpose: sh*t-talking an unfaithful woman.

"Everyone felt very sorry for him. And it shamed me. I felt there was no way at the time to tell my side of the story. I couldn’t explain, because I knew no one would take my side once Justin had convinced the world of his version. "I don’t think Justin realized the power he had in shaming me. I don’t think he understands to this day. After Cry Me a River came out, anywhere I went, I could get booed. I would go to clubs and I would hear boos. Once I went to a Lakers game with my little sister and one of my brother’s friends, and the whole place, the whole arena, booed me."

No memory of Las Vegas wedding

Britney infamously married childhood friend Jason Alexander during a boozy night out in Las Vegas in 2004. The couple had their marriage annulled and it was over in just 55 hours. But Britney says she had no memory of the night's events and her family had to fill her in the next day. She says she told them they were "just having fun", but her loved ones didn't see the funny side in it.

She claims they made "too big of a deal" out of the event and acted like she's "started World War III". She said she spent the rest of the trip crying when the legal paperwork was being dealt with.

Drinking from the age of 13

Britney writes that she started drinking cocktails with her mum, which they nicknamed "toddies" when she was just 13 years old. She claims they would drive two hours to the beach where they would sip on daiquiris. She said she would also sip on "little bitty" White Russians during they drive, saying she thought they tasted like ice cream. She describes the days as "some of the happiest" of her childhood and said they were her "piece of heaven".

'Excruciating' at-home abortion while Justin played the guitar

In one of the most heartbreaking sections of the book, Britney recalls being in "agonising" pain as she went through an abortion. She claims Justin "wasn't happy" when they found out she was pregnant so they decided to have an abortion, however she claims if it was up to her she would have kept the baby.

However they were so determined to keep it private that Britney took the medication at home without a doctor. After taking the pills she suffered "excruciating cramps", lying on the bathroom floor for hours in agony. However Justin didn't take her to hospital, instead just playing his guitar for her while she cried.

She admits the experience, which she says was one of the most painful things she's experienced in her life, "messed her up" for a while afterwards.

Bold way she seduced Colin Farrell

Britney opens up about the short-lived fling she had with Hollywood hunk, Colin Farrell in her memoir, following her split from Justin Timberlake. The Stronger singer revealed that it was her who made the first move with the In Bruges actor after commenting on how "handsome" he was to a club promoter friend.

Britney shared she drove to set of his movie S.W.A.T and was invited to sit in the director's chair after confidently walking up the sound stage. After a set piece, she shared how Colin came up to her and asked her for "pointers". Following the flirty interaction, Britney shared how they had a two-week fling, which she likened to a "brawl", as they were "all over each other, grappling so passionately it was like we were in a street fight". The whirlwind romance wasn't too last, although Britney shared that at one point, she did think "there could be something there".

Why she shaved her head

Back in 2007, photos of Britney shaving her head went around the world. Fans were left concerned by the popstar's actions, but she uses to book to finally explain why she did it. At the time she was in the midst of getting a divorce from the father of her two sons Kevin Federline and was a constant topic of news and highly sought after subject for paparazzi photographers as she was billed as “erratic” and “mentally ill."

She explains that she'd spent her life being "eyeballed" and "looked up and down", so decided to shave her head to "act out" and as her way of pushing back.
