Wrexham owner Rob McElhenney has started an unofficial petition for the Philadelphia Eagles to revert back to their iconic Kelly Green jerseys after the NFC East franchise crushed the Miami Dolphins on Sunday Night Football.

For the first time since the opening week of the 2010 season, the Eagles sported their iconic Kelly Green throwback jerseys against the Dolphins. In a battle between two 5-1 franchises, Philadelphia did enough to secure a huge 31-17 victory over Miami to move to 6-2 in 2023. However, it wasn’t the electric play of receiver A.J. Brown - who tallied 137 yards and a touchdown from 10 receptions - that caught the eye of fans. Many heaped praise on the Kelly Green jerseys - including famous fan McElhenney.

McElhenney took to Twitter to call on owner Jeffrey Lurie to consider a jersey change, writing: “Mr. Lurie- I, along with the undersigned below via [likes], would like to petition you to make Kelly Green the official colour of the @Eagles now and forever. Thank you for your consideration in this matter.”

The Eagles' uniforms of Kelly Green jerseys with gray pants and white-striped socks were a throwback to the late 1980s and early 1990s – the years that featured Randall Cunningham, Reggie White and Jerome Brown. The Midnight Green jerseys were introduced in 1996, two years after Lurie bought the franchise and became synonymous with the era of head coach Andy Reid and quarterback Donovan McNabb.

While the franchise has enjoyed success with three NFC championships and a first Super Bowl in its latest era, calls for the return of Kelly Green continue to linger. In fact, even receiver DeVonta Smith revealed the uniforms should be more than just an alternate.

“I think this should just be the normal uniform,” Smith said. “This should be an every game thing.” Defensive star Josh Sweat echoed similar sentiments to his teammates when the Kelly Green uniforms were announced to return back in July. Sweat said: “They need to be our permanent. “We can wear the black as an alternate. But the Kelly Green needs to be the main.” The Eagles are set to wear the Kelly Green uniforms once again in Week 12 against the Buffalo Bills.
