A desperate dad is asking for $950 (£780) to help relocate after a bed bug infestation left him with scars all over his body.

Dave Wyers, from Niles, Ohio, had to make the hard decision to pack his life up and move after months of living in a flat riddled with the critters. It had got so bad, Dave says he was left living like a recluse and even his son couldn't come over for visitation.

Now to move out. Dave wrote: "I am on disability and live in public housing. Last time I had for 10 months."

Despite repeated attempts to drive out the bugs, nothing seemed to last. He continued: "Received 12 chemical treatments from exterminator. Heat treatment was also done, bugs gone for 2 months. I was a recluse.

"One day I went to see my doctor and the next day bed bugs came back. I got them from others infested with them in my blog. That has now been 2 months! I have scars all over my body from the bites."

He even replaced all of his furniture and clothes in an attempt to stop them coming back. He said: "This will be the second time I'll have to replace all my furniture and clothes in the past 3 months. Me and my cat have suffered greatly with our health and piece of mind.

"I can't even have my little boy over for visitation. The funds will be used for moving, rental truck, furniture, clothes. Any donations no matter how big or small is greatly appreciated and I thank you."

Speaking to the Mirror about the growing numbers of bed bugs,. Adam Juson, co-founder of commercial pest control company , explained the creepy crawlies can also hide behind pictures and wallpaper - and horrifyingly even live on clothing.

While are not dangerous, getting rid of them can cause a lot of stress as they are very difficult to get rid of. With a bedbug invasion looming in the UK, it’s important to know the signs of these insects.

Adam explained: "The most common sign of bedbugs is bites on your skin, especially after sleeping."

If you end up getting bedbug bites, it’s recommended to put something cool on the affected area, keeping your skin clean and not scratching the bites to avoid getting an infection.

Another sign is marks, or stains, on your bedding or furniture. Adam said: "You may also recognise blood speckles on your bedding from the bites. Bed bug poop can also appear on bedding and furniture and looks like small brown spots."
