Baby name with 'main character energy' set to skyrocket in popularity next year
It can sometimes seem hard to keep up with all the baby name trends sweeping the world.
Although we all like the idea of giving our child an inventive name, the fact they will most likely don it for the rest of their life can make us think twice. These days, parents are increasingly opting for wackier monikers in place of more traditional ones.
Most of us want our kid's name to have meaning, perhaps in a slightly superstitious hope that it will give them luck in life. "Today's parents are fixated on sending the right messages with the names they choose," explains name expert and Nameberry creator Pamela Redmond.
"The perfect baby name for 2024 is one that is ahead of the style curve, personally significant, and identity-defining," she said. Among the names tipped to be popular in 2024 are those which give off 'main character' vibes, an online term meaning someone who 'knows their value' and 'takes control of their own narrative'.
One of the eye-catching names experts reckon will make your child stand out from the crowd is Avalon. The name comes from a mythical island which was visited by numerous magical figures according to Arthurian legend.

Experts forecast Avalon's uniqueness could be popular as a boy and girl's name due to its uniqueness. Other 'main character energy' names predicted to become more common are Conrad, Celia and Estelle. The latter is described by Redmond as 'quiet and luxurious', and she predicts it will rise in popularity because it 'oozes glamour and class', and appears to be 'effortless and chic'.
She said names that are traditionally viewed as 'girl names' are increasingly becoming popular for boys too. Celebrities like Rihanna and A$AP Rocky have exemplified this by naming their son Riot Rose. Chrissy Teigen and John Legend, who named their son Wren are another example. Other predicted names are Artemis, Cleo, Lotus, Eden, Fern, Harlow, Hazel, Jade, June, Rose, Willow and Carmen.
