A hapless hubby left his wife behind after stopping for a toilet break and drove 100 miles before realising she was not asleep in the car as he had believed.

The couple, Boontom Chaimoon, 55, and Amnuay Chaimoon, 49, headed out at 3am on Christmas Day to drive through the night to her home town in the Thailand province of Maha Sarakham. But Boontom was forced to pull over for a toilet break during the night and didn't want to wait to reach a petrol station, despite his wife's complaints, so instead, he stopped the car at the side of the road.

But the mum-of-one decided to she also needed to go to the toilet and ventured into the forest to do so. Her husband apparently didn't realise she had gotten out of the Isuzu pickup truck. When she came back to the road, the car was nowhere to be seen and she was left stranded in the dark.

Amnuay, who has a son aged 26 from her 27 years of marriage to her unlucky husband, had no money and her phone was in her bag in the car so she decided to start walking in the hope of finding someone to help her. She managed to find a police station after a gruelling 13-mile trek to arrive into the centre of Kabin Buri around 5am.

Once there, she pleaded with police to help her find her husband. However, she was unable to remember his number and the officers were unable to find him. They then tried to ring her phone, calling 20 times, but Boontom failed to notice it in his car as he drove onwards blissfully unaware of the panic he had caused. By the time he realised his error at 8am, Boontom had reached Korat province – 100 miles from his wife's location, so then had to turn back to collect her.

When asked how he could’ve driven so far without noticing her absence, the humiliated husband said he was sure she was in the back seat sleeping the whole time. He apologised to his wife profusely upon his return and despite this legendary incident of forgetfulness, Amnuay said they did not argue when he picked her up
