A mortuary worker has been sacked from his job after he allegedly returned to the home of a deceased person to interfere with a life-sized sex doll.

Ryan Smith, 41, who worked at Mid America First Call, was said to have been dispatched to a property at the Rock Creek Apartments in Omaha, Nebraska, to collect a body last week, alongside his co-worker.

Smith reportedly spotted a sex doll and told the property manager that a local sheriff had asked him to remove the item "to collect swabs for biopsy". However, his request was denied straight away. "Near the body on the bed was a very real life size [ sex doll]", an investigator said.

Police alleged that the building manager returned to the home later that day and heard strange sounds from inside. Smith is said to have been seen leaving the unit and warned he would return for a warrant for the doll. In response, the manager immediately alerted the police.

Smith was arrested and charged with burglary, criminal trespassing, and tampering with physical evidence on Friday. A post-arrest examination revealed the sex doll to be "sticky" and it appeared that "something had rubbed her inner thighs", police noted. A deputy collected the sex doll "so that I could have her processed for DNA".

After arriving at the crime scene, investigators noticed several items inside the unit had been moved since the earlier investigation into the deceased person's death. The Douglas County Crime Lab is processing fingerprints lifted from the moved items — and is planning to request DNA samples from the doll.

Justin Dalton, owner of Mid America First Call, confirmed to WOWT that Smith was fired from his job even though the crime did not occur on shift. The company removes, transports, embalms and cremates bodies. Smith will next appear in court on December 4.
