If asked to imagine what the Royal Family likes to eat at the weekend, many would envision formal feasts served at a grand dining table, with multiple knives and forks and not a polystyrene box in sight. For Mike Tindall however, there's nothing quite like tucking into his favourite takeaway, and it's a treat many non-Royals will enjoy in during cosy Saturday nights in front of the telly.

The former Rugby player is cautious about what he eats, making sure to strike a "balance" in order to keep himself fighting fit. He does however let himself indulge in a weekly takeaway, making one very specific order whenever wife Zara Tindall is away competing in equestrian events.

In a 2007 article penned for The Guardian, Mike, 45, opened up about his eating habits, revealing that his last meal of choice would either be lasagne or "fish fingers with parsley sauce and mashed potato". Giving a snapshot of his typical weekend eating habits, the father-of-three continued: "On Sunday I eat what I want. It'll be a bacon and poached-egg sandwich in the morning, lunch will be out and about. We love our roast-beef dinners down the pub and in the evening it'll depend. If Zara is away competing I'll have my only takeaway of the week. It would definitely be a Chinese - it might be a banquet for two but obviously, that would just be for me. I can do that in fairly easily."

Of course, Mike isn't the only Royal Family member who loves a cheeky takeaway from time to time. Prince William has previously admitted to getting a hankering for Nando's, with his security team picking him up some Peri Peri chicken whenever he gets the craving. During a segment in the 2020 BBC documentary Football, Prince William, And Our Mental Health, the Prince of Wales declared: "I like Nando's — everyone likes a Nando's."

He continued: "In fact, the policeman who's on with me again [today], he's the one who gets me the Nando's the whole time. It's his fault." As difficult as it may well be to imagine, even the late Queen Elizabeth II apparently didn't say no to a take-out, and was particularly partial to a good old-fashioned plate of fish and chips. Speaking with The Sun in 2019, a Royal source said: "She very occasionally treats herself to fish and chips when at Balmoral. A footman is despatched to get it from the local town of Ballater."
