The cast and crew of Home and Away have been rocked by the news that one of their own has been diagnosed with stage four cancer.

Bruce Murray, who is key grip on the Australian soap, is set to begin radiation therapy in an attempt to treat the disease. It comes after he was told that he had oesophageal cancer which has spread into his ribs, spine, collar bone, sacrum, and hips. A GoFundMe page has been set up to support Bruce and his family throughout his treatment.

A statement on the page says: "Recently our beloved, good friend, Bruce Murray was diagnosed with Stage 4 Oesophageal Cancer which has unfortunately gone into his blood stream and formed multiple cancers on his bones - ribs, spine, collar bone, sacrum, and hips. Bruce will be starting Radiation Therapy on the 3 most urgent bone areas - spine, ribs and hips and soon be starting a combo of Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy. It’s going to be a long journey but we are positive and know our cherished Brucey is a strong one."

It continued: "If you would like to donate, please do - anything will help Bruce and his family through this journey and to allow some comfort through these tough roads ahead." So far, the fundraiser has smashed it's $10,000AUD target and currently has more than $17,000 in the pot, which is roughly £8,800.

This has come from 94 donations since the page was set up on October 20. One of the donations, which is listed as from Nic and Lara Roberts-Frolchenko, was for $1,000. A picture on the page shows Bruce holding up peace signs as he relaxes in a pool inside of a unicorn-shaped inflatable. He smiles at the camera with multiple people seen just outside of the shot.

The organiser of the GoFundMe page is listed as Georgia, Hilary, Bobby - Home and Away, with the money going to Bruce. The grip's TV credits include Home and Away, Breakers, All Saints, Good News Week, Above The Law and E Street. He has worked in the film and television industry for over 20 years as a grip, key grip and jib operator. A grip is responsible for the positioning of the camera during the production of a TV show or film. They also are usually responsible for all of the camera equipment on set.

The NHS lists symptoms of oesophageal cancer as: difficulty swallowing, persistent indigestion or heartburn, bringing up food soon after eating, loss of appetite and weight loss and pain or discomfort in your upper tummy, chest or back.
