Lewis Capaldi turns hero as he saves elderly woman collapsed on Hampstead Heath
Lewis Capaldi has been hailed a hero after reportedly helping an elderly woman after she collapsed on Hampstead Heath.
The 27-year-old Someone You Loved singer is said to have been walking in London’s famous north London park with pals when he saw the unnamed woman lying on the ground on Wednesday.
Onlookers have told how he rushed to her aid and dialled 999. He then refused to leave the scene until he knew the woman had safely been taken to hospital to be checked over, according to reports.
“Lewis is not just a superstar, but a superhero. We saw him helping an old woman who had collapsed on the ground and it turned out he’d rushed over to help when he saw her,” one onlooker reportedly said.
“Lewis and his mates called an ambulance and made sure they stayed with the woman until help arrived. He clearly had a massive heart. Good on him,” they told The Sun.
Carol Vorderman takes rarely seen daughter Katie to meet Lewis Capaldi backstageThe Scottish star has been spending time in London after announcing he was taking a break from music and touring earlier this year. It followed his Glastonbury performance which saw fans help him sing along on stage after revealing he was recently diagnosed with Tourette’s syndrome.
"I used to be able to enjoy every second of shows like this and I’d hoped three weeks away would sort me out. But the truth is I’m still learning to adjust to the impact of my Tourette’s and on Saturday it became obvious that I need to spend so much more time getting my mental and physical health in order, so I can keep doing everything I love for a long time," he said in a statement at the time.
"I need to feel well to perform at the standard you all deserve. Playing for you every night is all I’ve ever dreamed of so this has been the most difficult decision of my life. I’ll be back as soon as I possibly can."
"I really apologise. You’ve all come out, and my voice is really packing in. We’re gonna play two more songs if that’s cool, even if I can’t hit all the notes," he said as the fans duly finished off his songs for him.
He also admitted that he struggles most during moments of stress. During his award-winning documentary, he shared of his own experiences: "When I’m in traffic it flares up. When I’m exhausted or after a big thing, it gets very bad."
Although he is taking some time out of the spotlight, Lewis recently won a National Television Award for his documentary Lewis Capaldi: How I'm Feeling Now, which documents his incredible rise to fame and how he copes with the pressures of his success.
In a video to fans last month, he said: “Hello there, it's Lewis here. If you're watching this, it's because I won the NTA award. Thank you so so much if you voted or even if you just watched the documentary. Thank you so much for voting, and thank you for everyone who made it. Making a documentary is not easy in the slightest, from what I've learned. It's an honour to be nominated alongside you. I'll see you soon."
