Little boy heartbroken as friends snub birthday party because of his vegan cake
It's no secret that kids can be cruel, and the smallest of things can cause a rift between children, but one mum and her son have been left shocked by his schoolmates' 'rude' reactions to his diet.
The four-year-old, named Malachi, has been following a vegan diet since January of this year and fellow pupils at his school have been very vocal about their stance on it, making unkind remarks and even vowing not to come to his birthday party if his cake doesn't have any animal products in it.
His mum, Angel Craine, has opened up about their heartbreak over the situation, explaining that she was vegan, but hadn't forced her two children to follow her diet, with Malachi deciding that he wanted to do so for himself after realising where chicken nuggets came from.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, the 27-year-old parent from Scarborough, in Australia, said they'd been planning her son's Pokémon-themed party for more than a month and Malachi is gutted that none of his friends want to attend.
She said: "I've been told every day after school about kids making rude remarks about him being vegan, but it was only a week ago he told me that everyone said they weren't coming to his party if he has a vegan cake. They want him to have 'animals' in it or they won't come."
Mum's touching gesture to young son who died leaves Morrisons shopper in tearsShe went on to explain that the family loves visiting farms to see animals, and it was during one such visit, after seeing chickens up close, that Malachi swore off eating animals completely, with his mum claiming he's 'really passionate' about this decision. "He absolutely loves his animals. When I explained that chicken is what's in nuggets and cow in burgers he was instantly thrown off and never wanted to touch any animal product again," she said.
As such he was excited to tell his friends all about the vegan chocolate birthday cake his mum was going to be making for the party, but his pals were less than impressed, reportedly saying if the cake didn't have any 'cow' in it, they wouldn't attend. His mum thought the kids would get over it quickly, but she has since realised that this isn't the case as they haven't had a single reply to his party invites and the big day is fast approaching.
In a bid to try and salvage her son's special day, Angel has since taken to a vegan Facebook page to ask if any parents on there wanted to bring their children to the party, in the hopes he could make some new friends with similar interests, who wouldn't be so cruel. She added: "He's always keen to make friends, he's a little social butterfly so he's super excited about his birthday. He's also absolutely obsessed with Pokémon, I even bought him a Pikachu costume to wear."
