Scottish singing sensation Lewis Capaldi has revealed that he was recently mistaken for Britain's Got Talent legend, Susan Boyle.

After ringing in the New Year in style, the Bruises hit-maker, 26, was left rather baffled when a fan told the singer that their father was left convinced that Lewis was actually 61-year-old Susan after laying eyes on a recent snap of him.

Holding his head in his hands, Lewis responded to the comment that read: "Lewis, my dad saw you on TV and thought you were Susan Boyle."

In response to the tweet, Lewis said he hoped that the New Year would bring a stop to people mistaking him for women in their sixties as he poked fun at the awkward mix-up.

"I dreamed a dream that people stopped telling me I looked like women in their 60s," the Scottish music star replied.

However, it is not the first time the Someone Like You hit-maker has passed for an older woman.

Lewis was also likened to former Prime Minister Liz Truss as videos circulated online after she stepped down from her position.

The much-loved musician was then compared to Angela Merkel, making Lewis question why he looked like so many female politicians.

"Why do I look like so many female politicians? What is going on," he joked back in September.

It comes after Lewis left fans baffled last month after he seemingly gave out his phone number to his 5.7 million followers.

Lewis posted an image of an iPhone with a mobile number under his name, but he didn't caption his posts and turned comments off, with fans going into meltdown.

However, all was revealed when some of his followers called the number to see who was at the other end.

One person shared a video of their attempt as they were met with an automated message from the star asking fans to go out and buy his new single Pointless.

"Hello there, it’s Lewis Capaldi here, just wanna say thank you for listening to Pointless this week. When you get off this call you’ll have a text to give my new song a download or to buy the CD. Downloading on iTunes and Amazon really helps, as does getting one of the signed CDs," he said.

Lewis cheekily finished his message by saying: "So, go buy it now because my label are demanding yet another number one single. Let me tell you guys, I don’t know if I’ve got it in me. So, give me your money and I will, in return, give you my body and soul."
