A “gobsmacked” mum who landed a £30,000 win in the People’s Postcode Lottery nearly gave up her ticket just weeks before.

Beth Guest, 40, was announced the winner on New Year’s Eve when her GL11 6HA home in Gloucester was drawn.

She was the only winner from the area and revealed she was set to celebrate - with a hot chocolate.

Beth, a mum of two who runs a playgroup, said: “I'm gobsmacked. This is really good news.

“I never thought I would win in a million years. I nearly cancelled my ticket a few weeks ago - I'm glad I didn't now.

"This has come at the right time and will help a lot. It'll help me finish the house. I got the kitchen done but the appliances are all second hand so it will be nice to upgrade them.

"I run a playgroup for the local community. I set the group up while I was on maternity leave with my second son.

“There are some bits I've had my eye on that I've wanted to buy for a while, so it'll be nice to get that.

“I think I'll have a hot chocolate. I'm in disbelief - it's very surreal."

Street Prize Presenter Matt Johnson presented Beth, from the town of Dursley, with her money.

He said: "What a lovely way to end 2022 - a massive congratulations to Beth and her family."

Today's prize is part of a draw promoted on behalf of Postcode Animal Trust which supports charities and good causes with those purposes through grant funding for charitable activities across Great Britain.
