Corrie fans confused as one character leaves cobbles after Stephen's death
Coronation Street viewers were left confused on Wednesday's episode as Carla Connor temporarily left the cobbles for Spain in a bid to save the factory after Stephen Reid stole money from Underworld before his death.
Fans will recall that Stephen was killed off last Friday by Peter Barlow as he hit the villain in his car, fearing he was going to hurt and murder more people. Peter has since been arrested and questioned as his fate remains unknown as the police investigate the incident.
On Wednesday, Carla attempted to leave for Spain in a bid to fix a business deal, insisting she won't be gone for long. However, Peter wasn't too happy as he pointed out she had suitcases packed for a month and joked he'll be in prison by the time she is back from Spain.
Carla, who pointed out the bad timing of her work trip, then got annoyed at Peter's attitude, saying she won't go but Peter pointed out that he wasn't stopping her. Peter said that of course he didn't want her to go but he'd feel the same way with or without an investigation, as he will just miss her. Carla then decided to leave for Spain, promising to be "as quick as I can" with the duo sharing a sweet goodbye.

Taking to social media, one person said: "Peter sacrificed his own recovery to help Carla with hers and she can’t even stay in the same country to be there for him", a different account put: "If Carla ’s going to Spain then Peter is gonna spiral bless him #Corrie" while another viewer wrote: "Has Carla never heard of Zoom/Teams?! #Corrie".

Elsewhere, one soap watcher said: "You’re joking me right? Even sarah just pointed out carla can’t leave peter like this, wtf is happening to carla ’s character #Corrie" while a different viewer added: "To drop everything like that and hop on a plane....as they all do... and it's always Spain... #Corrie!"
It comes as Peter star Chris Gascoyne, 55, who is set to leave the ITV soap in the coming weeks after 23 years, teased his character's storyline. With Chris set to leave the ITV soap, the actor has confirmed this storyline ties into Peter's exit: "Yes without giving too much away this will affect his future.
"He has been arrested on suspicion of murder, he is struggling with his demons. He has always had lots of enemies but at the end of the day he is his own worst enemy, he is the one that has suffered at his own hands the most emotionally and we can see this starting to happen again. He is facing prison, the drink is on his mind again, Audrey wants him to pay for what he has done. It is a turbulent time ahead."
Teasing more details about his exit, he added: "Well he has just killed someone so there are so many storylines that can come out of that and so many reasons that he might not be around any more. All I will say is I am delighted with my exit storyline, the scripts are superb and I can’t wait to see the reaction to how Peter leaves the street."
