Strictly's Amy Dowden shares update as she enjoys cute date with husband Ben

Amy Dowden was beaming on Wednesday as her hunky husband took her on a romantic brunch date while she continues her cancer battle.

The 33-year-old Welsh dancer has been married to Ben Jones for over a year - the couple having danced together and they also run the Art in Motion dance school in the West Midlands together. Strictly Come Dancing star Amy and husband Ben made history as a dance duo when they became the first all-British pair to win the British National Latin Dance champions in 2016.

The pair met through dance and started dating back in 2011 and Ben popped the question in 2017 - and they ultimately married in July 2022. Amy revealed in May this year that she had been diagnosed with grade II breast cancer and Ben has been at her side while she has been battling the disease.

Amy has been undergoing treatment and sharing her progress with fans online - giving updates from hospital while she has been undergoing chemotherapy, and sharing videos of her shaving her head after she began to lose her hair due to the treatment. The TV star, who has been battling further cancer since July, revealed on Wednesday that Ben had taken her out to brunch to celebrate a “good day” as she continues her health fight.

Taking to Instagram, Amy shared a number of snaps of herself and Ben at the Pig & Pickle in Dudley - with the pair looking very loved up together. Amy posed in a floral print top and showed off a new wig, while Ben looked laid back in a high collar jumper.

Sharing the photos online, Amy wrote as a caption: “When your having a good day so your husband treats you to brunch.” She included a number of hashtags stating “it’s the little things”, “having a good day”, and highlighting that she was wearing a “new wig”.

Fans, followers and fellow Strictly stars were quick to interact with Amy via the collection of photographs - with Dianne Buswell among those writing a message in response. The Aussie dance pro wrote: “love this so so much hi ben hi amy miss you both.” While Amy’s twin-sister Becky wrote: “LOVE this wig on you! You rock everything.”

Other fans were delighted to see the couple having some fun together with many commenting on Amy’s dazzling smile. While another fan wrote: “You always look so lush.”

While Amy has been forced to retire from Strictly as a pro dancer this year while she focuses on her health, show bosses are looking forward to welcoming her back for the 2024 season. Chief judge Shirley Ballas says she can’t wait to welcome Amy back to Strictly full time next year - and she was impressed to see her taking part briefly in the 2023 season when she appeared during an episode to present a brief segment, and featuring on the show without a wig and with her shaved head proudly on display.

Shirley told the Mirror this week: "She was a student of mine for many years. I talk to her a lot, all the time and I thought she was very, very brave. She was going to wear a wig and then she decided not to for cancer awareness month, and that took courage and we know what kind of courage that took for her and I thought she looked beautiful.

"Her dress was beautiful, the face, make-up - with or without hair that girl is a superstar. And I know her fight having known her as a little girl and she will be back on that show by next year. We love her, we miss her. She's very creative, she's so positive when you go on tour with her, she gets you upbeat."
