Skip Bayless might well be regretting what he said about Dak Prescott after an impressive performance on Monday night football.

The Dallas Cowboys defeated the Los Angeles Chargers in California, with Prescott putting in a solid prime time performance in a game he needed to perform in.

Prescott was coming into the game on the back of one of his worst games of his career against the San Francisco 49ers - throwing three interceptions with his team losing 42-10.

And after that performance, Bayless had strong words for Prescott, insinuating the team should look at back-up Cooper Rush. But Prescott responded by throwing for 272 yards and scoring two touchdowns to no interceptions.

Prescott made some strong plays in the game when he needed to, with their defensive unit continuing to dominate with Micah Parsons getting a sack and Stephon Gilmore with an interception to see out the win.

But it was the quarterback who Cowboys fans will be most relieved to be playing well, after his rollercoaster showings in recent weeks.

In November 2022 Bayless first stated that Prescott cannot be trusted in big games, having since fallen back on those comments on regular occasions, while stating that he has as much, if not more faith in long-term back-up Rush.

On his UNDISPUTED show, he said: "You can't trust my coach or my quarterback with big games on the line. I told you that this game in the end would be all about Dak Prescott. It would be his game to lose and was it ever.

"The bar got set much higher for Dak because of what Cooper Rush did, he saved the Cowboys season. In the biggest games, Dak does not come up big very often. If you look back at the last three of four years, show me in big games where Dak came out and won the game and lived up to his contract."

Throughout his career, Prescott has proven to be on the fringe of being an elite quarterback, but has had some difficult periods in big moments throughout his career - similarly to Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins.

But Prescott has played at a much higher than Rush has throughout his career, despite the backup playing well in cameo's in relief of him at times.

Last season, Rush was 4-1 as a starter with the Cowboys when Prescott had been injured, throwing for five touchdowns and three interceptions in five games. So far this season, Prescott and the Cowboys have a 4-2 start to the season with the quarterback scoring seven touchdowns to three interceptions.
