A mum left emotionally broken after doctors told her she was infertile has shared her joy at having three children against all medical odds.

Katy Jenkins suffered repeated miscarriages during eight years of heartbreak and feared her dream of becoming a mum would never come true. She and her husband tried to remain hopeful after she was diagnosed with unexplained infertility. But now the pair have welcomed three children, two-year-old Parker, and twins, Indie and Arlo, now 12 months, after five rounds of IVF.

The healthcare assistant, 32, is sharing her experience to help other mums and give them hope that miracles are possible. She said: "I was born to be a parent and I'm loving it, although extremely challenging at times, and it's taken me a while to truly embrace the joy of being a mum. But I'm still pinching myself every day, as I'm so grateful for our gorgeous, miracle babies."

Katy faced despair and disappointment during her journey to motherhood. She said: "After being told I was infertile, my emotions were all over the place, as I was still hopeful about finally having a baby, only for this to be crushed instantly."

"It's always been my dream to have children and the thought of never having a family of my own was torturous. I was so angry as it felt like my body was failing and everyone around me was having a baby so easily - so why couldn't I? She got pregnant twice mroe before her diagnosis but these both ended in miscarriages.

"I look back and for many years, I was so depressed from the infertility and no success of achieving one of the main goals in life," she said. In 2018, Katy was referred to a fertility clinic. They suggested going through IVF. In September 2020, she received a positive pregnancy test, she said. Soon her healthy baby boy entered the world.

She said: "I genuinely thought it was a case of getting the eggs and putting them back in - I never thought there would be such an emotional toll. I assumed it would work the first time, but then I was met with this rollercoaster of emotions from excitement to sadness, coupled with the unnerving worry that this wouldn't have a happy ending."

In a bid to complete her happy family with husband Thomas, 33, Katy underwent the procedure again and fell pregnant with twins on the first attempt in September 2022.

Now, she wants to share her journey in a bid to give hope to other families and to speak out about the "other side" of IVF which many don't see. The Exeter mum added: "I still panic that something wrong will happen and I always fear the worst. But my advice is to not compare your journey to others going through this, as it's different for everyone.

She says getting the right support is vital. The 32-year-old added: “I still panic that something wrong will happen and I always fear the worst.

“I also feel like I’m not able to say I’m exhausted or have the odd moan because we wanted this for so long, but it’s very hard.

“But my advice is to not compare your journey to others going through this, as it’s different for everyone.

“Find a community that you can talk to, which was Postpartum Plan for me, and has been a huge help in getting the right support.

“I was born to be a parent and I’m loving it, although extremely challenging at times, and it’s taken me a while to truly embrace the joy of being a mum.

“But I’m still pinching myself every day, as I’m so grateful for our gorgeous, miracle babies.”
