Coleen Rooney has insisted she did not have a grand plan for her outfits during the Wagatha Christie case – but admits looking back she regrets not doing more with her hair some days.

Much was made of the clothes Coleen and Rebekah Vardy wore at the High Court during the libel trial. Pages and pages of fashion commentary was devoted to their wardrobes, with stylists noting Coleen went for a mixture of luxury and high street brands whilst Rebekah wore designer pieces from the likes of Prada, Dior and Chanel.

But asked about her fashion, Coleen insisted she did not put much effort or thought into her court outfits, in part because she didn't want to be there. Coleen said: "I’ve always loved fashion from a young age. I’d ask for clothes and shoes for my birthdays – not toys. The one thing I can say is that I’ve always dressed for myself and never for anyone else. I wear what I like and what I think suits me. Looking back, I’ve made some mistakes, but at the time, if I liked it and I wanted to wear it, that was me!

"I think the fashion aspect of the court case made it a bit less serious in the tabloids. At the time, I wasn’t focused on that, but when you look back, it really became a show for everyone else. For me, I just looked in my wardrobe to see what I had that was appropriate for court and I worked around that.

"I’d rather buy a summer holiday wardrobe than a court wardrobe, so I just had a few new pairs of trousers. The press said that I planned to go more ‘girl-next-door’, but that was what I had in my wardrobe and that is me! Whereas they said Rebekah went more fashion focused, but what she wears is her choice and nothing to do with me.

"Why should I make so much effort to go to court when I didn’t even want to be there? I look back now and think, 'Oh, I should’ve got a blow dry some of those days!', but I didn’t want anyone in my room on those mornings before I went to court. I’d lost weight so some of my clothes had to get taken in, and also I had that boot because I’d broken my foot. The fashion thing wasn’t on the top of my list."

Coleen made the comments as she promoted her new three-part documentary for Disney+ which tells the inside story of the trial. The case centred on leaked information from Coleen's private Instagram account which she thought came from Rebekah Vardy, and worked out after some detective work and planting fake stories for her to see and pass on.

Looking back on when the judge found in her favour, Coleen said: "Even though it was fantastic to hear those words, 'You’ve won', I couldn’t process it. My family came over to the house later and they were over the moon that it went my way, but I wasn’t as excited. It wasn’t until the next day when I woke up and started replying to everyone’s messages that it sunk in a bit more. I thought, hopefully now we can go forward, but it wasn’t as simple as that! Hopefully it will be over soon, but the major part for me is over, and that was getting justice for telling the truth."
