Chilling footage captures a large knife strewn on a pavement near the scene of an alleged murder and attempted murder in a seaside town.

A forensic officer is seen taking photographs of the item in the clip, which has been shared on social media. The blade is beside a yellow tool mark evidence triangle, which are typically used by forensics to highlight pieces of importance in investigations.

A man died in Hartlepool, County Durham, early on Sunday morning, and a 44-year-old suspect has since been arrested by Cleveland Police. The force said it was initially supported by Counter Terrorism Policing North East on the investigation.

The footage, which has been widely shared on Facebook, shows a large police cordon erected at the junction of York Road and Victoria Road in the heart of the port town. Several tool mark evidence triangles are seen in the cordon as a forensic officer works at the scene.

Writing on Facebook, Hartlepool residents shared their concern at the probe. One person said: "It was about 6am the air ambulance was here. There's a cordon just outside the police station as well. It's madness. I think they took someone to hospital. I've seen loads of police driving about Hartlepool. [It] looks really serious."
