A man police want to talk to in connection with a shoplifting offence has been mocked for looking like movie director Guy Ritchie.

Police issued CCTV images of a man they want to quiz after goods were swiped from a Tesco Express store twice in around two weeks. But locals in Warrington, Cheshire, think the man looks just like the 55-year-old Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels director, and Madonna's ex-husband.

One man, whose Facebook page says he's from the town, said: "Guy Ritchie in Warrington... Wow." Another joked: "All the advancements in photography, and Tesco can only get grainy image CCTV. But a further Facebook user said: "Oh my God, leave him alone, he was probably hungry and desperate."

A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: "Officers investigating shoplifting offences at Tesco Express in Winwick Road, Warrington, have released a CCTV image of a man they would like to speak to. The incidents occurred at 10.45pm on Sunday, 10 September and 11.15pm on Monday, 25 September. During both incidents, a man has exited the store without paying for various items. It is believed he is local to the area and on both occasions left the scene on foot."

PC Sam Horton added: "Enquiries are currently ongoing and as part of our investigation, we would like to speak to the man pictured in the CCTV image. If anyone recognises this man, please contact us. I would also like to appeal directly to the man pictured to come forward."
