A man covered in blood staggered into a Tesco Express after being stabbed in the leg, leaving shoppers horrified.

The 34-year-old victim is believed to have been attacked at a nearby house party in Radcliffe before fleeing to seek help. Blood-soaked footprints marked the path from where the alleged attack happened on nearby Grosvenor Street. An air ambulance landed nearby while armed police were also called to the scene. A local shopkeeper recounted how his CCTV captured the injured man, accompanied by a woman, as he staggered along the pavement, before armed police and the air ambulance arrived at the scene.

He told Manchester Evening News: "There was blood everywhere. It was a bloodbath outside Tesco. I've seen pictures from inside and it was a bloodbath in there as well. We were just sat here, then the next thing we knew armed police were everywhere, then the ambulance arrived and the air ambulance landed just over the road."

"They brought him out of Tesco on a stretcher. He was saying 'I want my girlfriend in the ambulance with me'. They put in the normal ambulance, not the air ambulance. There was a party at a house on Grosvenor Street last night and they were still going this morning. That's where it happened apparently."

The scene was shut down for three hours after the attack, which happened around 11.30am. Several local shops were told to close their doors. Grosvenor Street was still cordoned off on Sunday afternoon. Photos from the scene show a police officer holding what looks like a knife and a bat in evidence bags.

Another local shop owner said: "Police asked us to close our door and stay inside the shop due to the seriousness of the incident. The lad left in an ambulance. He had a gash down one side of his face and also his leg."

Local councillor Den Duncalfe mentioned in a public post that there had been 'yet another stabbing' and that the victim had 'made his way to Tesco where police and ambulance were called'.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "At around 11.30am today (Sunday) Greater Manchester Police were called to reports of a man seriously injured outside a premises on Water Street in Radcliffe. Officers and paramedics attended, and a 34-year-old man was taken to hospital. Water Street is currently closed as an investigation is underway to understand the circumstances that led to this man's injuries. Initial enquiries point to this being an isolated incident, with no threat to the wider public."
