It can often feel like any occasion celebrated here in the UK now adopts American traditions and this is true for when someone is expecting a baby. From baby showers to gender reveals - while the celebratory occasions can be good fun, some people view them as pointless, especially as they have only started happening within the last decade.

Gender reveals are typically held before a baby shower, at around 20 weeks pregnant, and allows expecting parents to find out the gender of their baby in front of their friends and family. However, one woman has revealed her plans to skip her friend's baby shower as everyone found out the gender two months ago.

The woman explained how she normally has no issue with gender reveals, provided the guests don't know beforehand and they are "low key" with a cake, balloons and nothing too over-the-top. She now fears her friend is only holding the gender reveal for "attention" as she is promising a surprise for those attending.

In a Reddit post, the user said: "So not only is there no actual 'reveal', but she's apparently doing something 'special' which she's keeping secret because attention I guess. She's doing that annoying thing where she goads people into asking what she's planning and she'll just be sly and say she can't say."

The poster went on to share her guesses of what the surprise could be believing it could be a helicopter as the party is being held in her friend's auntie's house which has lots of land. The poster finished their rant by revealing the reason she will be using for not attending; she will tell her friend she is going rock climbing instead.

Commenting underneath the post, many users have been quick to side with the woman. One user said: "Why can't people just do a combo gender reveal and baby shower? One party = less expense for the party hosts, the guests who have to bring gifts, and less stress for those of us who are uncomfortable around that stuff." Another person said: "Gender reveal parties are a blight on society and purely for social media."

A third said: "The most nonsense party I've ever heard." While a fourth added: "Good for you. An invitation is not a warrant! You are absolutely free to decline it. When you accept invitations for displays of bad behaviour on the part of the hosts, you promote and endorse that bad behaviour."
