Kieran Trippier says Jude Bellingham is the man to end over 50 years of hurt for England at Euro 2024.

The Real Madrid superstar has already taken Spanish football by storm - now Trippier wants the 20-year-old to fire the Three Lions to glory in Germany next summer. "He can be the difference," said the Newcastle right-back ahead of Tuesday's showdown with Italy.

"At such a young age, with the maturity, the quality and the aggression he’s got, he's frightening. It’s not a surprise at all, the standards that he’s set in Madrid.

"You can see he’s playing with freedom and the players around him are going to make him even better. The scary thing is he’s only 20 years old."

England are looking to finally bury old demons against the Azzurri at Wembley some 27 months on from their heartbreaking penalty shootout defeat in the final of Euro 2020. Bellingham was an unused substitute on that rain-sodden evening but he is now viewed as indispensable by Gareth Southgate and his England team-mates.

Yet Trippier has warned rivals that England are no one-man band - even if world-beater Bellingham has scored 10 goals in 10 games for Real Madrid since completing his £88.5million summer transfer from Borussia Dortmund.

"If you look throughout the whole team, from 2018 to now we’ve taken massive steps," Trippier, who assisted Luke Shaw's quick-fire that made the nation dream, adds. "We lost in the Euros final but the most important thing is we’re progressing and doing very well. We’ve got goals from all over the pitch and Jude, Madders [James Maddison], Bukayo [Saka], Phil [Foden] are still young but can all change games in certain moments."

Trippier is adamant Southgate's band-of-brothers - led by captain Harry Kane - are on the cusp of delivering the goods.

"The most important thing is us as a team, the staff, Gareth, everybody involved, we stick together," the 33-year-old remarked. "Internally there are no problems. Everyone is calm and relaxed. All the players want to come and play for England. It comes down to Gareth. What he’s done since he took charge is unbelievable."

Trippier has stern competition at right-back with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Reece James also pushing Kyle Walker for a starting berth. But even when he is not playing - like the 1-0 friendly victory over Australia on Friday - he is prepared to do whatever it takes to help get England over the line.

He added: "I've mentioned it many times in my career that I love coming here to be part of it. I give everything on and off the pitch, if I play or don’t play I’m always ready - you never know when your opportunity is going to come.

"You can come on in a semi-final or final and you might get your chance, you might get your moment. I’m always ready to relish the challenge, I always enjoy it and strive to give everything for the team."
