Strictly's Krishnan Guru-Murthy's weight loss and heartbreaking obsession

Krishnan Guru-Murthy, the well-known Channel 4 newsreader, has revealed his wife Lisa was the inspiration behind his decision to take part in this year's Strictly Come Dancing.

Krishnan, who just underwent a two-and-a-half-stone weight loss, is eager to waltz his way to glitterball glory with his professional dance partner, Lauren Oakley. The news presenter was left awestruck by his wife Lisa's stunning transformation. According to him, Lisa had been "looking hot" after shedding extra pounds by running ten miles every other day and joining a rowing club. Krishnan admits that he felt he was being left behind as his wife was getting fitter and hotter each day. But seven months later, he was back with a bang, having signed up for the latest series of BBC1's Strictly and having lost two-and-a-half stones.

Speaking to the MailOnline, Krishnan candidly shared his thoughts on the challenges of being a 53-year-old man with a "hot" wife. When asked if he felt insecure, he admitted: "Yes, definitely. And I think it's not necessarily a bad thing if men pull themselves together because their wives are looking hotter than they are." He went on to confess that his "greatest fear” was women running off with younger, healthier men.

He continued: "My wife is enjoying that I am a little bit lighter than I was. In a way, I have been trying to keep up with her. She's amazing and so I think she's pleased I have started catching and pulling myself together, getting fitter and looking a bit more presentable."

Krishnan also revealed that he is "obsessed" with being overweight and unattractive. The contestant explained that his self-awareness has been a driving force behind his participation in the show. He also went on to express his admiration for 2020's champion, Bill Bailey, whom he hopes to emulate. He added: "Bill Bailey is my total hero for Strictly. I didn't expect him to do it, and then when he did, you didn't expect him to be very good. But he was brilliant. So if I was ever compared to Bill, I would be delighted.”
