A woman's faith in humanity has been restored after a generous couple left her a 150 per cent tip for waiting on their table. Without knowing it, the couple gave her the glimmer of light she needed after being struck with a series of shocking bad luck.

Reddit user HonestClock4506 explained how she and her "large family" were left with nothing after a hurricane levelled their house in Florida. She also said that despite her best efforts, the family had been outbid on two properties by people willing to pay cash up front. But an elderly couple then came along and with their wonderful kindness, helped "spread some sunshine" into her life.

She said: "My family and I have been going through a really rough year. Last year's hurricane destroyed our house. We ended up having to sell it for about £81k ($100k) less than it was worth. We have been home searching but living in an extended stay. We are a large family. This has really sucked. We have put two offers on houses that would be perfect for us only to be outdone by cash offers. It has not been a good week on an already really sh***y year.

"Tonight an older couple left me a £49 ($60) tip on a £33 ($40) check. They left a note above the amount saying God loves me. I am in no way religious but it felt really good for someone to spread some sunshine my way. So if by chance you are reading this and you left a really nice tip for your server. You really made her day. Thank you."

And Reddit users were unanimous in saying she had got what she deserved after enduring such terrible misfortune. One user said: I'm glad the Universe paired you with them. You were overdue. And they were overdue for a great server they could shower with gratitude. Here's to you, them, and to things looking up."

While another recounted their own experience of kindness while working in a restaurant: "I’m ecstatic for you. This has happened once to me and I almost cried at the table. There are some people like this who make the job worth doing, and I’m glad you found one. I wish you all the best."

And another advised that, what you give in, you eventually get back: "I’m truly saddened by your circumstances, and the outcome of this story was uplifting. It honestly doesn’t matter what faith you believe in, as long as you’re a good person, and pay it forward, Kudos to you!

"When I have it, I spread it: I have paid for people’s gas, when I have seen an older person struggling to pay at the grocery store, I have paid for their groceries. Kindness is invaluable, and a little bit goes a long way!"
