Liverpool have made a strong start to the new season, having endured a disappointing last campaign that saw them finish fifth.

Jurgen Klopp's side currently sit fourth in the Premier League, just three points off the top, and have made an unbeaten start to their Europa League campaign with victories over LASK and Union Saint-Gilloise. They are currently taking stock during the international break, but fans will be looking forward to the Merseyside derby on October 21.

However, the Reds could be without Andy Robertson when they host Everton at Anfield after he suffered an injury during Scotland's game against Spain, while they have also been linked with former RB Leipzig chief Max Eberl. Here, Mirror Football rounds up all the latest news from Anfield...

Robertson injury update

Robertson suffered a shoulder injury in Scotland's 2-0 defeat to Spain on Thursday after a clash with goalkeeper Unai Simon and could miss next weekend's Merseyside derby as a result.

Scotland boss Steve Clarke confirmed that Robertson will miss his country's next game against France on Tuesday, with left-back returning to Liverpool so they can assess the extent of his injury. "We'll have a look and he will go back to his club now," Clarke told reporters.

"It always seems to happen when you lose one player in a position. We lose Kieran (Tierney) then Andy picks up a shoulder injury. We'll see how it is and how it settles down. Hopefully he's good for his club as soon as possible and ready to help us in November."

Trent's brutal dig

Trent Alexander-Arnold hit back at James Maddison after the Tottenham star cracked a joke about Klopp asking for a replay of Spurs' controversial 1-0 win over Liverpool, with the pair on international duty together with England.

Maddison posted a snap of him and Alexander-Arnold on social media with the caption: "Still asking for a replay". When asked about it by Channel 4, Alexander joked: "No, he was asking me to teach him how to put a free-kick in the top corner.

"But, I told him, I'd just shown him the video when I scored at Leicester last year and they got relegated." Maddison left Leicester this summer following their relegation to the Championship and has excelled since moving to Tottenham.

New sporting director linked

According to a report from BILD, Liverpool are considering making Max Eberl their new sporting director.

Jorg Schmadtke currently occupies the role, but he only signed a one-year deal in May to replace Julian Ward and it is claimed that Eberl could now replace him at the end of the current campaign.

Eberl previously worked for Borussia Monchengladbach and RB Leipzig, but was sacked by Leipzig in September due to his "failure to commit to the club". BILD state that Bayern Munich are also interested in appointing Eberl, but note that he and Klopp share the same agent Marc Kosicke.
