Madonna joined four of her children for a family night out ahead of her first hugely anticipated sold-out show tonight.

Her family flew into London to support their mum as the superstar prepares to make her show-stopping comeback at the O2 Arena. On Thursday, she joined daughters Lourdes Leon, 26, and Mercy James, 17, and son David Banda, 18, at 23-year-old son Rocco Ritchie’s charcoal drawings exhibition in Mayfair.

The family appeared to have all received the dress code memo and dressed in black. A dinner followed at the venue, until 2am, with Rocco seen with a mystery girlfriend. The singer’s six sold-out London shows kick off her 78-date world Celebration Tour. Show insiders say the 65-year-old pop star is fighting fit after her recent health scare.

Madonna was treated for a serious bacterial infection in June and spent time in intensive care, admitting she was “lucky to be alive”. She then embarked on a gruelling fitness regime to get in shape for the tour, which had to be pushed back from July. A source said they were amazed by the physicality of the shows.

The source said: “The show is slick, her voice is top-notch... if anyone expected a hangover from what happened to her in the summer, then they don’t know Madonna. She was determined to get back to her best. It’s astonishing, she moves like someone 20 years younger.”

Her exercise regime has been honed by three physical therapists and portable gyms. Yesterday her team revealed how she will be transported around the arena in an illuminated portal frame that acts as a time machine allowing her to move 80ft across and 130ft down the arena.

Her musical director Stuart Price has said the tour includes more than 40 songs. He told the BBC : “She looks incredible, sounds incredible, performs incredible.” Madonna, who will be joined by her family on stage, also has 11-year-old twins Stella and Estere. She has previously said of motherhood: “Today I am still struggling to understand how to be a mother and do my job.”
