Emmerdale aired some shocking scenes this evening as the truth about Amit's part in his brother Rishi's death was revealed in big scenes

Emmerdale's Amit has revealed he was there when Rishi Sharma died in a shocking twist.

Fans were stunned when Rishi - played by Bhasker Patel - was found dead at the bottom of the stairs. It appeared he had suffered some sort of heart attack and then had fallen down the stairs, but now the truth has been revealed.

Amit confirmed to his son that he had been there when Rishi died. Speaking to his son, he said: "I heard that Jai had found out he was adopted. I didn't know what he knew beyond that, but he wasn't answering his calls and emails.

"So I needed to come here and talk to him. He wasn't pleased to see me, but we talked right here. How could he have let this happen, I said. I called him stupid, he didn't like that. He said excuse him, but his son was getting married today. He tried to shut the door on me, but I followed him inside. I should have let him be, I should have never come."

Fans were stunned to learn about the truth of Rishi's death, with some convinced that he was murdered, despite Amit's insistence he did nothing. Taking to Twitter, one fan wrote: "You killed him Amit, Poor Rishi #emmerdale," whilst a second added: "He killed Rishi!"

Bhasker previously got emotional as he discussed his heartbreaking exit from the soap.

"When the producer rang me and said: 'I need to talk to you and we're killing you off because we want a big story and it's going to be a big surprise.' Because my 12 years at ITV, they let me do a lot of other work, so I felt a part of ITV, a part of Rishi, but at the same time... I was working in London as well. So when the producer said 'we're going to kill you off', I was like: 'Okay, that part of my life with this guy is over and I'm going to move on,'" he explained of his exit from the show.

The coroner had previously confirmed that Rishi had died from an accidental fall. Jai revealed to his wife Laurel in sad scenes recently: "Dad's body has been released. The coroner has confirmed the death as accidental fall."

But will this new information now cause an investigation to be opened into Rishi's death?
