Amazon Prime Video is earning a reputation for releasing highly acclaimed films fronted by some of the world’s biggest movie stars. Film fans can even access the streamer’s huge library of content without paying a penny by signing up to a 30-day free trial.

What’s more, this also comes with tonnes of pre-Black Friday bargains as part of Amazon’s Big Deal Day sales, including a whopping discount on a high-spec Hisense UHD Smart TV. What better way to break in that new TV with a must-see new film that has critics going wild.

Prime Video is set to drop a brand-new drama that debuted with a perfect 100 percent Rotten Tomatoes score. Inspired by true events, The Burial stars Oscar winners Jamie Foxx and Tommy Lee Jones in tale of what happens when an underdog takes on a corporate giant.

Billed as an epic David vs. Goliath showdown, Amazon’s new courtroom drama sees small town funeral home owner Jeremiah O’Keefe (Jones) enlist the help of smooth-talking lawyer Willie Gary (Foxx) to take on a huge corporation and save his family business when a handshake deal turns sour. Tempers flare and laughter ensues as the unlikely pair bond while exposing corporate corruption and racial injustice in this inspirational, triumphant story.

Written and directed by American filmmaker Maggie Betts in just her third feature film, The Burial was inspired by a real case that featured in a 1999 New York Times article. Speaking to Amazon ahead of the film’s release, producer Bobby Shriver spoke about how the differences between the two protagonists – both in background and personality – make the story more appealing when the two men bond.

He said: “I read an article about a white man in Mississippi flying to Florida to hire a Black lawyer to represent him in a funeral home case and thought, ‘A white man in Mississippi hired a Black lawyer in Florida? How is that possible?‘

“It wouldn’t have made sense, so I knew there had to be something else there.”

Following its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September, The Burial debuted with a perfect 100 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes, as reported by Digital Spy. Critics have praised the performances of its two leads, with Radio Times’ Jeremy Aspinall saying it is “the contrast between Jones’ quiet dignity and Foxx’s razzle-dazzle that centres” the film.

The Times’ Kevin Maher called The Burial “irrepressibly entertaining” while Screen International’s Wendy Ide described it as “crowdpleasing [and] triumphant.” The AP’s Lindsey Bahr said the film is “glossy, appealing and goes down suspiciously easy.”

The Burial drops on Prime Video on Friday, October 13.
