Wales’s best jump jockeys will compete in a special charity race on Friday to raise money for the daughter of trainer Christian Williams.

A dozen riders, led by Sean Bowen who heads the jump jockeys championship, will ride in the Welsh Jumps Jockeys Derby on the Flat ahead at Chepstow of the first day of the track’s opening jumps fixture. of the campaign.

Betsy Williams, daughter of leading Welsh trainer Williams, was diagnosed with iacute lymphoblastic leukaemia during the week of the Cheltenham Festival in March.

She has returned to school having undergoing treatment, supported throughout by Latch, and the six-year-old is expected to attend the race meeing.

Chepstow boss Phil Bell said: "This special race is for an important cause. The entire Welsh horse racing community is rallying around to support Christian and his family.

"We felt it was important, as the biggest racecourse in Wales, to do what we could to raise awareness and money."

Sean Bowen will race alongside his brother James in a line-up that also includes Jack Tudor, Adam Wedge, Richard Patrick and Alan Johns, who has helped organise the race with Chepstow.

Williams's stable star Kitty's Light, who won the Scottish Grand National and bet365 Gold Cup within seven days in April, will also take part in the 1m4f race.
