The international break has begun and Liverpool will not be back in action until October 21, when they face rivals Everton in the Merseyside derby.

Jurgen Klopp's side are looking to mount a title challenge this season and will be hoping they can get back to winning ways against the Toffees, having failed to win their last two Premier League games. They were controversially beaten by Tottenham last month before drawing against Brighton at the weekend.

Liverpool currently sit fourth in the league, just three points behind Tottenham and Arsenal, while they have also made an unbeaten start to their Europa League campaign with wins over LASK and Union Saint-Gilloise. Here, Mirror Football rounds up the latest Liverpool news.

Salah replacement identified

Former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock believes the Reds should sign Napoli star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia if Mohamad Salah leaves the club.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Warnock said: "Everyone's replaceable. I've said it about [Luis] Suarez, I've said it about [Philippe] Coutinho, and he [Salah] will be replaceable in time. I think the big problem is with Salah if you get a £175million offer from Saudi Arabia that's difficult to say no to.

"I wouldn't sell him in January but maybe next season, but only if you've got someone else lined up. You'd have to have someone exciting lined up, the one player that springs to mind is Kvaratskhelia. He's the one player you look at where you think he's young and has potential and can play, but he's a left-sided player, could he play on the right?"

Dalglish hails Doak

Liverpool legend Sir Kenny Dalglish is a big fan of 17-year-old prospect Ben Doak, claiming the forward has a chance of making Scotland's Euro 2024 squad with Steve Clarke's side on the verge of qualification.

Doak started Liverpool's Europa League win over LASK and has been a regular on the bench in the Premier League, catching Dalglish's eye with his progress. "He's only a baby, isn't he?. He's done really well in just a year-and-a-half," he said of Doak.

"He'll not be far away from it [ Scotland ]. He was on the bench at Brighton [last weekend] and he came on in the Europa League. If he just handles it properly, he’s got a lot of things going for him. He's got more going for him than going against him."

Alonso could replace Klopp

Former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso has made an impressive start to his management career and has been touted as a potential replacement for Klopp.

Alonso's Bayer Leverkusen side currently sit top of the Bundesliga, two points ahead of Bayern, after making an unbeaten start to the season. As a result, the Spaniard has been linked with several top jobs across Europe, having signed a new contract over the summer that runs until 2026.

However, according to Sport Bild, Alonso has a clause in his deal which would allow him to leave next summer to take over at one of his former clubs, namely Liverpool, Real Madrid or Bayern Munich.
