Coronation Street slammed by viewers who 'didn't realise' vital clue about Tim

Coronation Street has been slammed by viewers following the "death" of Tim Metcalfe at the hands of Stephen Reid.

Actor Joe Duttine could bow out of the ITV soap after 10 years in the role, as scenes in the latest episode saw him lifeless on the ground. While his fate is not known, he certainly looked dead and viewers are fearing the worst, convinced he has been killed off. During the latest episode, Tim was distracted from Sally's plans for their wedding anniversary when a passing mention from Brian of Stephen's interest in the canal dredging project left him suspicious.

Tim then decided to head to the canal towpath, where he used discarded objects nearby to poke at the water before a corpse's hand floated to the surface. It then appeared that Tim had survived but Stephen had other plans as he tied up his hands and then strangled him, leaving him lifeless. Stephen then discarded the metal rod, throwing it high into the air.

After cottoning on to Stephen's killer crimes and discovering a body, Tim was left fighting for survival. In dramatic scenes, he was attacked by Stephen twice, and now he faces death. Stephen strangled him only for Tim to get away, but the killer then hit him over the head with a metal bar.

Fans of the show have been voicing their reactions, with many admitting they "didn't realise" just how attached they had become to the Weatherfield window cleaner and taxi driver.

"I didn't realize how fond I was of Tim #Corrie," commented one viewer. A second asked: "#Corrie twist. Tim is alive but has Jenny drowned in the bath? Never drink a Stephen brew." While a third expressed disbelief: "Surely Tim can't be dead ??? #corrie" Another speculated: "Yes, I know that! Aaaarrrggggh! IMO, there's a twist in the plot. Tim isn't dead. #Corrie"

But others shared a different perspective, with one commenting: "I'm not mad if Tim is actually dead. Having Stephen kill a character that the audience has known for years and is actually invested in elevates him as a villain, and makes his inevitable demise all the sweeter. Rufus, Teddy and Leo just weren't that. #Corrie,"

A second expressed her doubts, stating: "Is Tim dead or are we just being led to believe he is? The body the police found is not necessarily Tim's. I'm thinking he's still alive." Another speculated: "Something is telling me that Tim isn't dead...the mentality of 'you didn't see it, it didn't happen' comes to mind. #Corrie x." While a third also believed in Tim's survival, saying: "Nah, Tim's gotta still be alive. That's why Stephen didn't set fire to the cat so it's at least a bit realistic when Tim returns. I beg #Corrie " Another expressed her sadness over the potential loss of the character, saying: "Joe Duttine, I will miss you dearly. You really made Tim one of the show's finest characters. #Corrie."
