The countless characters who've lit up the incident-prone village of Emmerdale over the years have all left their mark on us - some of them more favourably than others.

Who can ever overlook the ultimate bad boy Cain Dingle? The master criminal may have been involved in more scams than Del Boy, but he does have a nicer side and seems to have developed more of a conscience of late.

Another fantastic villain is, of course, Kim Tate. Many of her drama-packed storylines have revolved around her tempestuous marriage to Frank Tate, whom she divorced, remarried, and was widowed by. Plus who can forget her long-running rivalry with Frank's son Chris Tate; an on-off companionship with Chris' sister Zoe Tate and several quarrels with the likes of Chris' two wives Kathy Glover and Rachel Hughes?

But despite all this bad behaviour, the popular Yorkshire soap does have its fair share of 'goodies' too - perhaps most iconically Seth Armstrong. The epitome of the loveable rogue and wind-up merchant, Seth would love to play tricks on Woolpack landlord Amos Brearly and later his boss, the loveable Alan Turner.

Other characters we kept close to our hearts were the ever-dependable Jack Sugden and the much-respected village vicar Ashley Thomas.
