A Hamas militant broke into a grandmother's home and murdered her before capturing a video on her phone and posting it on Facebook, her heartbroken granddaughter claims.

Mor Bayder said the first she knew of the horrific incident was when she spotted the post on her grandmother's account at 7am on Sunday. In a post on her own account, Mor described the clip as the "nightmare of my life" and went on to pay tribute to her late loved one.

She wrote: "The pillar of my life, in my family's life. My grandmother, a resident of Kibbutz Nir Oz all her life, was [killed] yesterday in a brutal murder by a terrorist in her home. Seven in the morning, I saw the nightmare of my life. A terrorist came home to her, killed her, took her phone, filmed the horror and published it on her Facebook wall.

"This is how we found out. The purest thing in the world, the light of my life, my whole world, my grandmother, can't make it real. This morning I didn't get 'My dear teacher, did you get up?' like every morning when you were persistent not a minute after seven. My heart is shattered to pieces. Those who know me know what she is to me, what a connection we had, what a person she is, pure and good.

"My grandmother loved life but how do we go on without you? Who am I without you? I'm not willing to talk about you in the past, it's a nightmare of my life. I love you and you know it, in every room of my heart, in every particle of my body, in every fibre of my organ. My grandmother, my flower, the light of my life, my whole world."

The Palestinian militant group Hamas invaded Israel on Saturday and attacked areas close to the Gaza border in an unprecedented incident amid the decades-long war that has raged between Israel and Palestine. In retaliation, fire rained down from above in the Holy Land as Israel responded with a series of crushing airstrikes.

The militants have said they will kill one Israeli civilian captive any time Israel targets civilians at their homes in Gaza "without prior warning". In response to Israel’s bombardment, the spokesman of Hamas’ armed wing, Abu Obeida, made the threats in an audio released Monday night. Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen warned Hamas against harming any of the hostages, saying: “This war crime will not be forgiven.”

An Israeli embassy spokesperson has told US News network CBS that the number of people killed in the attacks on Israel is now 900. At least 1,200 people overall have died on both sides with intense rocket fire continuing. Three Britons have so far been confirmed dead. The families of Corporal Nathanel Young, 20, Bernard Cowan, 57, and Dan Darlington have all paid tribute to their loved ones.

They are among at least 10 UK nationals feared missing or dead - including Jake Marlowe, 26. Israeli troops are being deployed to the north of the country amid reports of incursions from Lebanon, while Benjamin Netanyahu's government has embarked on a total siege of Gaza, ordering it to be left with "no electricity, no food and no fuel".
