Experts have agreed Vladimir Putin is considering “going out with a bang like Hitler”, rather than face the humiliation of a coup by his own people amid fears he has celebrated his last birthday.

The Kremlin has been awash with infighting and disagreements since the warlord ordered his troops to invade their peaceful neighbours Ukraine last year. Few of his generals truly understand why their men were ordered into the country, at the cost of around half a million Russians lives.

Earlier this year Putin feared the end was nigh when troops from the Wagner Group aimed their sights at Moscow before a potential coup was called off. Now an expert says should dissidents decide to take out the President, he would take his own life like Adolf Hitler in 1945 - rather than face the humiliation of being stripped of his power.

Professor Anthony Glees told the Sun : “He may be looking at the golden pistol on his desk thinking, yep, time's up. If he is sufficiently terrified, yes he could reach for that gun. That would be the answer and the new dawn would come up upon us.

“The only way the scourge of Putin will be taken from us, and in particular from the awful suffering of the people of Ukraine, is if he is killed and the second best would be a coup that would overthrow him.”

He added he believes the evil dictator has celebrated his last birthday - when he turned 71 on October 7. For months Putin has been dogged by rumours he has been subtly replaced by a double amid the belief he has already secretly died.

Earlier this year Ukraine’s military intelligence chief alleged the “real” Vladimir Putin has not been seen in public for more than a year. Major-General Kyrylo Budanov has doubled down on earlier claims one or more doppelgängers are used in place of Putin.

Budanov said he does not know if Putin is still alive. In an extraordinary interview, Budanov - who spearheads drone strikes and undercover operations against - alleged about Putin: “The one, who everyone used to know, was last seen around 26 June 2022.”
