Former England footballer Alex Scott is back on our screens today for Football Focus and has seen her off pitch career go from strength to strength since she hung up her football boots.

The 38-year-old Right-back represented her country from 2004 until 2017 playing in 140 games and scoring 12 goals - and she has also played professionally for Arsenal and Birmingham City as well as the Boston Breakers over in the USA. And she has built up an impressive media career, offering her experience and expertise to be a pundit on shows including Soccer AM and Sky Sports’ Super Sunday.

Off the pitch, Alex has become an icon for the LGBTQ+ community after candidly revealing she enjoyed a years-long relationship with a fellow teammate while playing for England. However, the sport star has said she wouldn’t necessarily label her sexuality, explaining that she has had relationships with both men and women. Here we take a look at Alex’s dating past - which includes a soap hunk as well as a sports champion.

Back in 2020, Alex went on a date with Coronation Street star Sam Robertson - who has played Adam Barlow since 2004. However, the potential for further romance was dampened after a member of the public invaded their night out.

Reflecting on the date in 2021, Alex explained that she had been excited to meet up with Sam before things went wrong. She said: “I never seem to have a lot of luck on dates. My one date in ages was going out with Sam [Robertson], who is lovely. The next morning, our pictures were all over the press because someone in the restaurant had taken a photo. It wasn't exactly a great start.”

She said in a subsequent interview that she doesn’t mind single life as she finds she is quite independent. She told The Sunday Times: “My life has always been about being independent, making sure you can look after yourself and never wanting to feel that someone can walk out on you and take everything away from you.”

In her 2022 autobiography, How (Not) To Be Strong, Alex revealed she dated fellow Lioness Kelly Smith for eight years from 2005 until 2013. Speaking of their time together, Alex said she fell ‘madly and deeply in love’ with her teammate - but she said she debated whether or not to include their romance in her memoir.

She said at her book launch last year: “I went back and forth on whether I’d actually be writing the chapter. But then it was one of those moments, I’m writing this book and I want to tell everything. I thought I’d be cheating you all if I didn’t put that in there. And for me, it’s like that first love story, I fell madly and deeply in love.

“And yes, there’s that heartbreak and those things, but it’s a huge part of my life and I wouldn’t go back and change that. Because that feeling of love and that excitement and what it gives you, it needed to be in there.”

Dating app dislike

Like many other singletons, Alex has flirted with the idea of finding love online and has dabbled in the world of dating apps. However, she admitted in 2022 that she hadn’t dared to use a dating app after downloading one.

She explained: “I am completely hopeless, but every time I think about it, it just doesn’t seem natural to me. So, absolutely nothing has happened. But who knows what the future will bring.” She later explained that she ditched dating apps in the hope of finding a love match in a more organic environment. She said: “If someone manages to come into my life who complements it, then great, but I’m not a person that needs to be with someone.”
