Fiona Bruce shocked viewers when she appeared on Question Time with a black eye and her arm in a sling.

The 59-year-old star concerned fans on Thursday night when she presented with the injuries. She was in Wolverhampton to talk about the biggest political news of the week but made sure to address the elephant in the room before starting the debate with the guests.

Fiona confessed she had a little accident while horse riding and wanted to 'just mention it'. Speaking to viewers, she said: "It's the least interesting thing in the programme but in case you're wondering. I broke my hand and I've got the remnants of a black eye because I fell off a horse.

"And that's all I have to say about that." She swiftly returned to discussing the political issues of the week. "What’s Fiona Bruce done to her arm?" one fan asked on X, formerly known as Twitter. Fiona previously discussed her love for horse riding and revealed she started the hobby in 2011.

"I started horse riding very late in life. I will always be pretty rubbish, but I love it," the newsreader revealed to MailOnline in 2021. "It takes me to a different place. I can't think about anything else when I'm doing it. I love being around horses. I love the speed. I love being outdoors."

Fiona has an interesting life away from broadcasting. She was born in the then State of Singapore in Malaysia before eventually moving to the UK. She didn't spend long in Singapore as she attended primary school in the North West before being a pupil at Haberdashers' Aske's Hatcham College in New Cross from the age of 14 until 18.

Meanwhile, the star got her first taste of fame when she modelled in the teenage girls' magazine Jackie. When she left school she showed she was quite the brain box as she attended Oxford University. After graduating from university with a degree in French and Italian, she struggled to find work that suited her interests but it was someone she met at a wedding that eventually gave Fiona her big break.

Fiona is best known for appearing on multiple iconic shows such as BBC News, Panorama and Question Time. One of her most well-known gigs is being the host of Antique's Roadshow. She secured the job back in June 2007 after presenting BBC Two's Antiques Show in 1998.
