EastEnders viewers demand soap bosses axe one of the show's characters

EastEnders viewers have expressed their frustration with the character Bernie Taylor, who has been a part of Albert Square since 2017. The audience seems to be growing weary of her character and are calling for her to be "killed off" by the show's producers.

In the episode aired on Thursday, October 5, Bernie was seen working in the cafe, spreading rumours about Theo attacking Stacey and Freddie. "And they're saying if he dies, Freddie could go down for murder," she commented while serving Whitney and her partner, who retorted: "That's her family you're talking about."

Bernie continued: "I mean Stacey has got previous on that front." However, Whitney was not impressed and responded: "What's your point? Maybe when you've had a stalker and they've forced their way into your home, you'll realise what it can make people do."

The audience was left disgruntled, claiming that Bernie's character has been "ruined" as she has become a gossip. On X, formerly known as Twitter, one viewer stated: "Bernie is a really pointless character now. All she does is gossip about everyone else..."

One disgruntled viewer expressed: "Why are they ruining my Bernie godddddd." Another added: "Can bernie BURN in that fire I'm sick of her being around...WHO THE HELL DOES SHE THINK SHE IS."

Echoing these sentiments, another fan stated: "They just need to kill Bernie off now, why has she become an awful gossip?" A fifth viewer complained: "bernie needs to do one. seriously what is the point of her? all she does is make snide comments to everyone in the cafe. time for the axe methinks.".

Bernie first appeared on Albert Square in 2017 as part of the Taylor family, which includes her mother Karen Taylor (Lorraine Stanley) and siblings Keanu (Danny Walters), Riley (Tom Jacobs) and Chatham (Alfie Jacobs).

In 2021, she took a brief break from the soap before returning in March the following year. During her tenure on EastEnders, Bernie has been central to several major storylines, including a teenage pregnancy and coming out as a lesbian.
