Shoppers spot major change to Primark's sizing and it's left them divided

Shopping on the high street can be a minefield, as when it comes to clothing, there doesn't seem to be any consistency in sizing. In one shop you may be able to grab a 14 from the rail, but in another, you'll be struggling to get a 20 jeans over your hips. It can be frustrating, and whilst it shouldn't impact the way you feel, it can make you feel rubbish when your usual size doesn't fit how you'd like.

And when one woman went into Primark recently, she was left confused as she believed the sizing had changed in the store after picking up a size 'S', which she thought was an 8-10, but she soon realised that it was actually 10-12, meaning it would be too big for her.

Over the top of the TikTok video, the shopper named Ayla wrote: "POV: Going to Primark for the first time in forever and picking up a bunch of size small clothes, only to realise their small is actually a size medium", followed by a crying emoji and a facepalm.

"Primark is the only shop where I can be a size 8 and a size 18 at the same time make it make sense", someone fumed. Another person said: "Primark sizing is so odd!! Some things are so different and fit so differently."

People were left seriously confused as they believed that a size S was 8-10, a M was 12-14, L was 16-18, and an XL was 20-22, but one TikToker thought they'd got to the bottom of it. They wrote: "Their sizing is actually all wrong. Size S used to be 8-10, XS used to be 4-6, only the labels changed their actual sizing hasn't." But someone else thought the sizing had changed, writing: "Primark has standardised their sizing with the actual measurements recently so most people come up a size bigger."

Someone else suggested that people not pay attention to the sizing, and just try it on to see if it fits, commenting: "Primark sizing is hideous. If it fits, don't pay attention to the number." Ayla responded: "True! I don't pay attention to the number but this time I grabbed small thinking it would fit me only to get home to find they're all too big!"

A Primark spokesperson said that the sizing hadn't changed since 2018, however, saying: "No changes have been made to our sizing since the last update in 2018. The fit and size consistency of our clothing is really important to us and we are continually working to improve and evolve our products to best meet our customer needs." On Primark's US website, however, it reads: "We're working hard to ensure our sizing is consistent across all of our products."
