Nigel Farage slams 'rude' Laurence Fox and says sacking him was 'right thing'

Nigel Farage agreed that sacking Laurence Fox was the "right thing" after the disgraced broadcaster launched into a vile tirade at journalist Ava Evans.

Good Morning Britain host Ben Shephard asked Nigel, who presents a show on GB News, what he thought about Laurence being fired by the broadcaster.

“GB News wanted to be a free speech station and quite right too. There are some issues that weren’t being properly debated across UK media. There’s a big difference between free speech and being rude," he said. "What Laurence Fox said about the journalist, Ava Evans, was unnecessary, out of place, rude… it wasn’t the first time he’d done it.

"For any channel to work, it has to be a team game. You need team players. The fact that they‘ve sacked him, it’s the right thing. Overall, GB News has come into this space and it’s a good debate platform and I’m very proud to be a part of it. Fox went way over the line, not just this time but other times and he had to go.”

GB News confirmed on Wednesday that they had fired Laurence after suspending him over his misogynistic rant directed at Ava. The outburst saw Laurence refer to Ava as a "little woman" before asking: "Who would want to shag her?”

The rant took place while Laurence appeared as a guest on Dan Wootton Tonight. Fellow GB News host Calvin Robinson was also fired, but an internal investigation into Dan, who was seen smirking and laughing during Laurence's rant, is ongoing.

GB News said in a statement: “Laurence Fox and Calvin Robinson were both suspended last week pending internal investigations that have now concluded. As of today, GB News has ended its employment relationship with Laurence Fox and Calvin Robinson. The internal investigation into Dan Wootton continues.”

Calvin claimed there was a "civil war" that had erupted at GB News in a 10-minute video posted to X. He accused the channel "trying to push out" himself and Laurence.

Laurence's sacking comes after he livestreamed police officers coming into his house and, searching and bagging up his possessions. Scotland Yard confirmed a 45-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of conspiring to commit criminal damage to ULEZ cameras and encouraging or assisting offences to be committed.
