Pep Guardiola secured his 103rd Champions League win on Wednesday night - surpassing Sir Alex Ferguson's total in the process.

The Catalan saw his Manchester City side score twice in the last ten minutes to see off a spirited RB Leipzig side in Germany. Phil Foden's first-half goal had been cancelled out and it look as if City's dominance wouldn't be enough until Julian Alvarez and Jeremy Doku both scored.

Guardiola's stellar European career shows no sign of slowing down and he's now registered another win, taking him clear of Ferguson's haul of 102. It now means only Carlo Ancelotti, who has won 108 games and remains in the competition with Real Madrid, is ahead of him.

Ancelotti's departure has been announced and he will leave Los Blancos in the summer whilst Guardiola is set to remain in Manchester. The Catalan is currently trying to defend his Champions League crown, which he won back in June, his third tournament success following his two at Barcelona.

Ancelotti is the only man with more Champions League titles than the Catalan, winning four across his incredible managerial career, the most recent coming in 2022 with Real.

City are aiming to become just the second team in the Champions League era to defend their crown and have won their opening two games in a group they are expected to top with relative ease. Guardiola was full of praise for their performance in Leipzig.

He told TNT Sports : "Really good. We played a fantastic game in all departments. Everyone was perfect. The substitutes all came off the bench with smiles on their faces, not complaining because they did not start."

Guardiola had seen his side lose successive games prior to their trip to Germany. Last week Newcastle knocked them out of the Carabao Cup before Wolves ended their perfect start to the season with a shock win at Molineux, but Guardiola firmly defended his players.

He added: "I will not judge my team on results. Both games were not the best results but it is not easy when both teams defend with 10 in the box. It happens. There are many games. Despite that if you think I will doubt my players, you are wrong. I rely on these guys unconditionally. They prove it. We go to Arsenal game, rest and hopefully in May we will arrive in the competitions being there."
