Jamie Theakston's 'tearful reunion' with stolen classic car 'miles from home'
TV and radio presenter Jamie Theakston had a 'tearful reunion' with his stolen classic car.
The former Top of the Pop host's much loved motor was discovered "miles away from home"'. Jamie's wife Sophie took to social media to share their pride and joy had gone missing over the weekend. The vintage Triumph had been "driven into the ground" by the thieves, but the couple were delighted to be returned with the car.
Taking to social media, Sophie wrote: "Oh my Goodness…. Where do I start. Firstly, I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart to Mark and his lovely wife who found Esme late last night and let us know where we could locate her. She was miles from home and had been driven into the ground. So after a tearful reunion, she promptly broke down on the M25, tired and emotional (she is very sensitive).

She thanked her followers for their help trying to find Esme. Sophie confessed there were "tears of joy" after feeling a "genuine disappointment in humanity". "And yesterday I was reminded what a great country this is and how many really kind and caring people there are in it," she added.
"Thank you to you ALL for your lovely supportive words and advice yesterday. She’s back. She’s safe. I know she’s only a ‘thing’ but she’s my very old and very beautiful thing and I love her. And the bad guys didn’t win on this occasion…..kindness did Love to you all…." Presenter Jamie also took to his social media to share a picture of Mark and his wife with the car.

He said: "This is Mark and his wife – he found our car last night in Surrey – he’s a superhero – the next picture shows the car on the hard shoulder after the thieves drained the radiator and it’s final journey home on a low loader. THANKS to everyone who helped bring her home. It’s been a busy night – Now for a brief moments sleep before my breakfast show."
The theft of Jamie's beloved car comes a year on from another incident. In October last year, Jamie told listeners on Heart that his first car was stolen. He recalled: "It was 2am when my doorbell rings and it's the police. They say 'Mr Theakston your car has been stolen. It's just appeared on a tracker and it's about an hour away'."
It didn't take him long to figure out who had taken the car at the time. Theakston added: "I quickly realised that the woman had nicked the keys off the table in the hall-way." Police managed to find the vehicle after what he called a "dramatic night". Upon discovering his bright green classic Triumph was taken on Sunday night, Jamie took to his social media to say criminals had made a mistake. Writing on X, formally Twitter, Heart FM's Jamie blasted: "To the p***k who stole our car last night - you picked the wrong one - it's completely unique and everyone is looking for it - spread the word." He attached two snaps of the beloved Stag.
