Victor Osimhen has released a strong worded statement in the wake of that controversial TikTok video - a matter of hours after Napoli's social media executive confirmed his departure.

The Serie A champions caused controversy when they posted videos on TikTok which appeared to mock Osimhen for missing a penalty during their 0-0 draw at Bologna. The rather unsettling social media clip focused on Osimhen appealing for a spot-kick, with a high-pitched voice included in the video.

Osimhen is now considering taking legal action, while Napoli clarified they did not intend to cause offence to the Nigerian international. Napoli have been heavily criticised amid the backlash, but after scoring in their emphatic 4-0 victory over Lecce on Saturday, Osimhen has issued a message on his Instagram story, admitting the "accusations against People of Naples are untrue".

"Coming to the City of Naples in 2020 was a wonderful decision for me," Osimhen said. "The People of Napoli have shown me so much love and kindness, and I will not allow anyone to come between us.

"The passion of the People of Naples fuels my fire to always play with my heart and soul, and the love for the badge is unwavering as I wear it with pride. The accusations against People of Naples are untrue.

"I have a lot of friends that are Napolitans and have become part of my family and everyday life. I appreciate Nigerians and everyone for leading their voices to support and reach out to me. I'm forever grateful. Let’s support unity, respect and understanding. FORZA NAPOLI SEMPRE."

Osimhen's statement came a matter of hours after Napoli social media executive Alessio Fortino confirmed his departure after over two years in the role. He posted on Instagram: "Today, after 805 days, my professional adventure with SSC Napoli ends.

"For many this job would be comparable to a dream, for me it was the simple daily reality: a reality built on commitment and fuelled by the continuous desire to learn and get involved.

"I cannot help but express my profound gratitude to all the colleagues, collaborators, partners and fans met during this long journey for making this experience so special. I leave the company with a wealth of extraordinary memories and enthusiasm for the new adventures that await me. Thanks again for everything and see you soon!"

Osimhen helped fire Napoli to the Serie A title last season, scoring 26 goals in 32 league appearances. He was linked with a move to Manchester United and Chelsea in the summer, but decided to stay put with Osimhen currently having two years left on his contract.
