Strictly's Nancy Xu supported by former celeb partner after Les Dennis dance

Strictly Come Dancing professional Nancy Xu has been supported by one of her former celebrity partners on social media, after her dance with current Strictly partner, Les Dennis, put them at the bottom of the leaderboard.

Former Coronation Street actor Will Mellor posted a photo of himself with Nancy during their run to the semi-finals in last year's competition, with the 47-year-old soap star narrowly missing out on a place in the final. With Strictly head judge Shirley Ballas likening the dancing of Les Dennis to a "wardrobe", it is looking highly improbable that Nancy will repeat the feats of 12 months ago.

Will reached out to Nancy on his Instagram Story after the show and wrote alongside a photo of them together: "Had some amazing moments on this dance floor with @nancy_xuxi"

After his exit from the competition last year, Will told The Express that being on the show was "the hardest thing I've ever done," though he joined the Strictly tour this year to continue his dance experience.

He said at the time: "I know there are all these people out there that have got really hard jobs and would probably go, 'the hardest thing?' but for me, as I say when you do a show like that... it's mentally and physically the hardest thing I've done. Just because it's on your mind 24 hours a day and the pressure, you know.

"Learning a new skill, your body's aching every day because you're putting your body through nine hours of training every day on a skill that isn't natural to you and also the pressure of performing live in front of 10 million people."

Nancy has had a tall order this time around with Les with him admitting that he has had no previous dance experience though he had done some 'comedy dancing' while treading the boards on the West End.

Nancy revealed Les had been doing well in rehearsal, telling Lorraine Kelly during an appearance on her weekday morning show: "He’s doing great. We had a lovely day in rehearsal, he made a huge step forward. I was so surprised I had a smile."

No matter how many strides Les has made in rehearsals, he has only got 22 points from his first two dancers of the series meaning he is propping up the leaderboard and in danger of featuring in the dreaded dance-off and being the first celebrity to leave this year's competition.
