The next series of I'm A Celebrity could welcome a "superstar" by bringing racing legend Frankie Dettori on board.

The 2023 I'm A Celebrity series is still a couple of months away and will air later this year, but already rumours are rife with Frankie's name coming up again and again. The father of five is reportedly in "advanced talks" to join the jungle reality show hosted by Ant and Dec for ITV.

Frankie is no stranger to reality TV, and has previously taken part in Celebrity Big Brother in 2013, so will be well versed in entertaining a TV audience whilst competing to win.

A TV insider speaking to The Sun said: "Frankie is a superstar signing for jungle casting producers as he is a legend in the horse racing world and would be reality TV gold.

"He might be pint-sized, but his personality is larger than life and he has real charm and a sense of humour. Frankie would be brilliant in the Bushtucker Trials too as being competitive is second nature to him."

They added that Frankie has "a wealth of stories" to keep fellow campmates entertained. The insider also highlighted that due to keeping his weight down as a professional jockey, Frankie would also be able to survive on the basic camp meals of rice and beans.

Odds on champion jockey Frankie swapping the Grand National for a Bushtucker Trial dropped as low as 2/1 last month, but it appears the "advanced talks" could mean he will make an appearance. William Hill spokesperson, Lee Phelps, said: "Presuming this will be his last season in the saddle, we’ve seen plenty of money come in for Frankie Dettori to appear in this year’s edition of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! in November.

"There seems to be confidence that the Italian jockey will serve a stint in the jungle this year, with his price of 16/1 earlier this month shrinking to just 2/1 as of Wednesday morning."

The Mirror has reached out to an ITV spokesperson for comment.
