Richard Keys shows evidence that explains referee's apology for Liverpool error
Richard Keys left PGMOL chief Howard Webb with egg of his face after showing why Luis Diaz's goal against Tottenham should've stood.
PGMOL, who are in charge of referring in the Premier League, have apologised to Liverpool after a "significant human error" saw Diaz's strike wrongly disallowed for offside in their 2-1 loss at Spurs on Saturday. Darren England was the video assistant referee (VAR).
The howler has left many pundits and fans flabbergasted, with Gary Neville calling it "really, really bad" and Jamie Carragher describing it as "shocking". Keys tried to make sense of the blunder during beIN Sport's coverage of Saturday's game.
Keys and pundit Andy Gray drew a line to prove that Diaz was onside. "There you go," said an astonished Gray. "He's at least a metre onside."
Keys then asked: "Why didn't Darren England at VAR take his time to look at that? I do not buy that it keeps the game moving. It's absolute nonsense."

Gray responded: "It shouldn't take any time. We can see by the naked eye that it's onside. It's obvious. The goal should have stood."
PGMOL have tried to calm the situation with a statement. It read: "PGMOL acknowledges significant human error occurred during the first-half of Tottenham Hotspur v Liverpool. The goal by Luis Diaz was disallowed by the on-field team of match officials.
"That was a clear and obvious factual error and should have resulted in the goal being awarded through VAR intervention, however, the VAR failed to intervene. PGMOL will conduct a full review into the circumstances which led to the error. PGMOL will immediately be contacting Liverpool at the conclusion of the fixture to acknowledge the error."

Neville, who was covering the game for Sky Sports, responded to that apology. He said: "Oh no, seriously? At the time, I thought that’s onside but then I hear in my ear, ‘check complete’. No lines, it was so quick. Something was obviously wrong.
"That is unbelievable. That is a really, really bad one. They’ve said significant, that’s not significant, that’s really significant. I’ve made a point over the last few weeks - do we even have the right camera angles for these VAR interventions anymore?
"I’ve defended VAR and offsides as a matter of fact but over the last few weeks, there’s been so many that they’ve gotten wrong. It was all too quick, it wasn’t right. I asked the director, and he told me they must’ve drawn the lines on back at Stockley Park (where VAR decisions are made), but they can’t have.
"That’s a horrendous one - that is clearly (Cristian) Romero’s foot and clearly Diaz’s shoulder, it’s not like there’s a bunch of players there. It’s almost as if there’s no cameras anymore, they’re picking the wrong cameras to draw the lines on. Something doesn’t feel right!"
