Strictly Come Dancing contestant Adam Thomas has been dealt a blow before he dances on the second week of Strictly.

The star earned 19 points with his first dance of the series after opening the show last week, and it looks like he could be set to get a similar low result this week. In fact, bookies have him down as one of the first to be eliminated. Last week he was third from the bottom on the Strictly leaderboard, with Zara McDermott, Nikita Kanda and Les Dennis finishing below him.

As Strictly heads into its second week and the first elimination, it seems the Emmerdale actor's odds "increased massively" according to Gambling.co.uk's James Leyfield.

Leyfield told GB News: "Les [Dennis] is still propping up the Strictly market on betting apps at a massive 150/1 and he is just 15/8 to be the first star eliminated.'

Highlighting Adam, Leyfield then said: "Meanwhile, Adam Thomas' odds have increased massively this week to 50/1. He is a big 14/1 outsider to go first. The former Emmerdale star may well have the soap fan support to rely on to keep him in the competition until at least week two, but it might be worth a go given his odds for Glitterball glory."

After his first dance on Strictly last week, Adam and dance partner Luba were criticised for playing it safe with a "dull" routine. Former Strictly professional Brendan Cole said in a scathing interview with Sky Bingo: "I think his partner needs to do better. I didn't like the choreography choice. I didn't like the set to start the show. I mean, that could be production intervening and going, 'we want this', but for me it lacked, it seemed like an average routine."

He continued: "It was opening the show so that was kind of odd. I was pleased to watch him because he's really nice to watch, but at the end, it was kind of dull, but I don't think it's his fault. I think he could do really, really well, but it's going to take some very clever stuff between them to make it right. I thought it was an average looking number for somebody who should be quite fun to watch."

Adam has opened up about his struggle for dancing after he was diagnosed with rheumatoid Arthritis in January. Speaking exclusively to the Mirror, he revealed: "I’ve not talked about this before but no-one really knows the pain I’ve been going through. I put on a brave face but it’s been difficult to keep that persona up. Emotionally and physically, it’s had a huge impact on my life this year."
