Footballer 'spotted at edge of bridge' as emergency services called to scene
A professional footballer who was spotted on top of a bridge is reportedly 'out of danger'.
Emergency services were sent to a viaduct in the south of France after reports of a footballer being spotted on top of a bridge, local media reported. The footballer in question is not being named by Mirror Football, though it is understood they represent Ligue 1 side OGC Nice. The police and fire brigade were called to the scene, according to BFM Nice Côte d’Azur and France Bleu Azur (via Get French Football News).
Nice are reported to have sent a psychologist to the scene, where the player is said to have stopped his car and stood next to the edge of the bridge. Local reports indicate the club postponed media activities previously scheduled for Friday.
Later reports from France Bleu indicated the player had been rescued by firefighters. Following the intervention from the emergency services, the player was said to no longer be in danger.

Nice had initially planned for a 10.30 training session to be open to the media, but RMC Sport reports that this was ultimately held behind closed doors. A press conference ahead of this weekend's match against Brest, scheduled for 1.30pm local time, is also reported to have been postponed.
Francesco Farioli's Nice team sit second in Ligue 1 after three wins and three draws from their opening six matches. Sunday's opponents Brest are the only team above them in the table, having taken 13 points from their fixtures.
After the most recent victory, in a derby meeting with Monaco, Farioli played down Nice's title hopes. “We aren’t the favourites. If we start to think like that, we’ll make a false step," he said, as translated by Get French Football News.
"I come back to my presentation press conference where I said I wanted to bring a spirit of work and heads down. Since then, we have come through contrasting times: sometimes positive, sometimes with good performances, but without the results. Now, we’re where we need to be in terms of points, of absolute value.
“After six matchdays, we can’t allow ourselves to look at the table or to dream. We need to be happy with what we’ve done so far. Difficulties will await us. We have to anticipate them and know how to avoid them and continue to work, as we’ve done so far, perhaps even more. The risk when winning is to forget how you got those victories, it’s through sacrifice and lots of attention."
